Saying goodbye

My Friday started off so well, but it did take a sad turn that afternoon. We had to say goodbye to our little dog, Ellie. She had been having some problems for awhile, and my parents were planning on taking her back with them this coming weekend for us, while we try to sell our house and get ready to move, so I made an appointment at the vet to get her all checked out.

She had more problems than we realized. Some that could be treated to make her more comfortable, and some that could not. The vet said she guessed Ellie probably had very little time left with us and it could be even less than she was thinking given all the changes coming our way. One of the biggest issues she had was dementia. Ellie didn't always recognize us, or her surroundings, and had become increasingly reclusive and had even run into several walls and doors. When we would go places she had a lot of anxiety, and we now realize why.

The vet said nothing we could do would make her better, it would only make her a little more comfortable as she continued to deteriorate, and so we chose to put her down. I'd had her for 12 years, and while I know it was the right choice, it is still hard.

  2. aww I am soo sorry! I have a Yorkie that I've had for 2 1/2 years and we just got a miniature dachshund a couple months ago. I can't imagine losing either one of them. Just know she is a lot more comfortable where she is! :) and at least you'll have sweet Emersyn soon to comfort you! Lifting you up in my prayers today!
