Well, it's been and eventful, yet uneventful weekend! On Thursday I was having major back pain at work- I'd been having back pain around the right side of my ribs, but this was around my whole back, plus I had a spot right under my rib cage on the right side that was giving me come and go SEARING pain. The skin was tender to touch, and literally feels like it's on fire- no bueno. I knew it might be nothing, but my parents were coming in for the weekend for us to work on the house, and I wanted to know for sure, so I called my dr. Sure enough, they sent me back to Labor and Delivery for monitoring. While I was there the pain shifted from just my back to all the way around the belly- and they kindly informed me I was having contractions. They started out 7-9 min apart, and a few hours in they were 3-4 min apart. However, I was only dilated to a 1, and wasn't progressing at all on that front, so they sent me home. They said the searing spot of pain could be related to my liver or gallbladder, or both, and at this point (35 weeks 2 days) they wouldn't do anything to stop labor, but they also weren't going to encourage it, I was to come back in if the contractions intensified or if my water broke.
Over the weekend my contractions ranged from 11-15 minutes apart to 5-7 min apart, some pretty darn painful, and others not so much. Talk about confusing. I've been asked a lot if they're just Braxton Hicks or "real" contractions and the answer is that I don't know. I'm looking forward to my dr apt on Wednesday to get some more info and see if I've dilated any further. I don't want her coming before she's healthy, but I'm definitely not wanting to be dealing with these for 4 weeks either.
Goodness, what a weekend! It gets so confusing with the Braxton Hicks/"real" contractions during these last few weeks...you are not alone!! Hope you get some relief soon.
ReplyDeleteoh man, what a weekend! I have heard that the only difference b/t BH contractions and actual labor contractions are that BH won't cause any cervix changes. And they will stop. So in your case, it sounds like your contractions were BH but it will be interesting to see what your OB says, too. You will definitely know without a doubt when you are in real labor---the pain is a LOT different. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope she stays in there for a good 3 more weeks (but that is just me, of course). I know that I don't want this baby being born as a 'preemie' so once I hit 37 weeks I'll breathe easier. And even having Truman at 38 weeks seemed scary for me. I didn't want any NICU time!
